I just read a really great post on a really great blog. It's called 12 Tips To Be Bold & Set Your Heart On Fire. It has wonderful advice on keeping that spark in your romantic relationship, but I really think it could and should be applied to all of our relationships (except for maybe the making love part :)). I really love the whole premise of this blog, and I hope you check it out!
On another note, I had an amazingly liberating afternoon, and I wanted to share it with, well, the world I guess. The kiddos were having quiet time, and I have massive amounts of cleaning to do before we hit the road, so I was tackling that. I was listening to my mp3 player and a song came on that I just had to dance to. I turned it up as loud as my poor eardrums could stand and I danced like I haven't danced in years. It was like being in high school and getting ready for a first date and not being able to contain your excitement....it was FUN! Two songs came on back to back: Corrine Bailey Rae's Put Your Records On, and Natasha Bedingfields's Unwritten. Both of these songs had me inspired, nearly to tears. I have always kind of marched to the beat of my own drummer, and gotten a lot of cockeyed looks from most people around me; these decisions about traveling as a family and living in an RV are no exception to be sure. But this afternoon, I felt GOOD and confident. Only Husband and I (and God) can know what is best for our family, and I have to have faith in that. And so I do.
So here's to good blogs, music you can dance to, and getting our dreams!

the great and powerful television
I have been seriously considering unplugging the television for a while now. Actually off and on for over a year. And by unplug I mean disconnecting the cable and only allowing some PBS and or videos from the home and public library. Husband is not so much with me on this, which is part of the reason I haven't done it yet. He really only watches sports, and the occasional live music show (palladia; check it out), unless I rope him into watching something like American Idol with me. I figure he works hard, and pays the bills, for that matter. If he wants TV, he gets TV. There are several shows that I follow, but none that I couldn't live without. When I was a kid, we had a thirteen inch black and white with rabbit ears, and one of us had to hold the rabbit ears to get reception. I wish I was kidding. And that was the time we had a TV. No, I'm not that old; late twenties.
My point is , we built forts, and played house, and ran around in the woods all day. We watched bugs, and listened to birds, and all that jazz. We were dirty country kids, but we were blissfully ignorant of that fact (until we got a little older).
Already with my very young children, I see the toll that the great and powerful television is taking. They wake up at 6:30 in the morning with questions like "hey mamma, can I watch a movie? Mamma, can I play Wii?" SERIOUSLY???? GO BACK TO BED!!!! This is especially annoying to me because I AM NOT a morning person.
So recently I have strictly limited TV time. I try my best not to rely on television to distract the kids while I'm busy (which as a new mom I swore I would never do in the first place.). I do admit that I reserve TV time for when I'm bathing Em since Husband is on the road, just for safety purposes. Since I have enforced the new laws (which also apply to video games and computer time), I have noticed a few things.
1. IW is much more creative than I ever gave him credit for. He makes up games and voices with his cars. *CUTE*
2. QL is really interested in ants.....well any animal/living thing really, which isn't exactly a new revelation.
3. IW teaches QL a lot of things when given the opportunity, ie. counting, alphabet order, how to play UNO.
4. We all enjoy each others' company quite a lot. We put on shows (ladies and gentlemen, boys an girls!), play games, read, make forts.....it's fun.
5. IW and QL woke up this morning and stayed downstairs and played. This is a first. HUGE, people, HUGE!
And it's only been about a week and a half. Just these minor (yet major) changes make me sure that this is the right thing for our family!
PS did I mention that IW told me that "When my tummy hurts I need a Zantac, and then I will feel better, right?!?!", as he was watching TV? The new laws were enforced the next day!
